Are you getting your summer reading list in order? Personally, I think the Deerbourne Inn series a perfect summer-read selection. The books are short, perfect for a beach read or while you’re kicking back at the end of day, and offer a variety of genres. There are about ten books released so far, mine included, with lots more coming. Over the next few weeks, I’m featuring several of the authors along with excerpts from their books to help you choose your favorites.
This week, bestselling author Peggy Jaeger tells us a bit about Hope’s Dream.
What made you want to write a Deerbourne Inn story?
I live in a tiny town exactly like Willow Springs, only I live in New Hampshire, right over the border of Vermont. I basically wrote what I knew!
What inspired this story?
I’d been mulling over a rags to riches story for a while in my brain and when the Deerbourne call came through, I knew I’d found the right vehicle for it. Small town girl, big city guy, mistaken identity and an inheritance. Perfect for the Deerbourne Inn series.
Do you spend more time reading or writing?
So, I do so many book reviews for Netgalley. I spend eight to ten hours of writing every day then about four hours of reading every night, five times a week.
Top three favorite genres?
RomComs, Regency, Smalltown Romance
Do you write every day?
Five days a week for eight to ten hours, and then two to three hours on the weekends each day. I consider a day without writing as a wasted day.
What advice can you give aspiring writers?
Never give up on a dream. I was 55 when my first book was published in 2015. I’m 58 now and have 16 books behind me and I’m contracted with two publishers for seven more between 2019-20. You are never too late to realize a dream!
Hope’s Dream Blurb: Hope Kildaire gave up her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner when a car accident killed her father and left her mother an invalid. Working two jobs and caring for her mother leaves the twenty-seven-year-old with no time for fun or relationships. When a law firm representing her paternal grandparents sends her several letters, Hope ignores them. She despises the family who disowned her father and wants nothing to do with them.
Lawyer Tyler Coleman’s job is simply to obtain Hope’s signature on a legal document. Getting it is harder than planned, though, when an unexpected attraction blossoms between them. If Ty is honest with Hope about why he’s in Willow Springs, he’ll fulfill his assignment but may risk hurting her.
The opportunity to have everything she’s ever desired is at Hope’s fingertips. Will her dream come true at the expense of Tyler’s love?
Excerpt:
He’d been staring at her the entire time she spoke, his gorgeous and intense blue eyes drifting across her face, her lips, even her hands as she used them to accentuate a point. He’d been, for the most part, silent, nodding a few times to show he understood what she was saying.
“Your mother is lucky to have you for a daughter,” he said after a few beats. “I don’t know too many people who would give up their lives, or their dreams, to help someone else, be it a parent or a loved one. I see too many selfish, self-centered people every day, out for only themselves. You’re neither of those things. You have a very beautiful heart, Hope Kildaire.”
When he stretched out a hand across the table, wrapped his fingers around hers, and gave them a gentle squeeze, it took everything in her not to let go the emotion welling up from deep inside her. Good looking, nice to her mother, and he could make her toes tingle with a simple brush of his hand on her skin. Not to mention he’d been worried about her safety when she’d left the bar last night. Hope couldn’t believe guys like him still existed in this day and age.
After he squeezed her hand again, he let it go. It instantly felt lonely. Hand? Heck, her entire body felt abandoned.
“Enough about me,” she said, shaking her head. She speared an asparagus stalk and pointed it at him. “Tell me about you. Aside from the fact where you’re from, I know nothing about you. Out with the details, New York.”

More about Peggy
Peggy Jaeger is a contemporary romance writer who writes Romantic Comedies about strong women, the families who support them, and the men who can’t live without them. If she can make you cry on one page and bring you out of tears rolling with laughter the next, she’s done her job as a writer!
Family and food play huge roles in Peggy’s stories because she believes there is nothing that holds a family structure together like sharing a meal…or two…or ten. Dotted with humor and characters that are as real as they are loving, she brings all topics of daily life into her stories: life, death, sibling rivalry, illness and the desire for everyone to find their own happily ever after. Growing up the only child of divorced parents she longed for sisters, brothers and a family that vowed to stick together no matter what came their way. Through her books, she’s created the families she wanted as that lonely child.
