Best-selling author Peggy Jaeger is known for her delightful romances. She’s surprised herself — and her readers — by jumping genres and writing something she calls “romantic suspense lite.” What’s that? Switching Years, Switching Genres by Peggy Jaeger
As the last day in this decade unfolds, resolutions will be made, dreams will be re-evaluated, new goals will be set, and change will be anticipated for the coming year.
For me, one major change will be the shift in my writing life from primarily Romantic Comedies to Romantic Suspense Lite.
I get two questions from people the moment I tell them about the shift: 1. Why?, and 2. What the heck is romantic suspense lite?
The why is easy. I don’t want to get stagnant as a writer. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll still be writing contemporary romances and RomComs, but I want to branch out in my writing and see if it’s something I can have success at. I love to read suspense thrillers and mysteries, so this is a subtle way to see if I’m any good at penning them. A PRIDE OF BROTHERS is a three book arc about a Private Investigations firm and the men who run it. Each book will focus on one of the brothers and a case they are working on.
The answer to the second question is a little convoluted. I don’t want to give up writing romance stories – ever! I just wanted to see if I could take them in a different direction from my usual writing style. Now, I have a very dear author friend named Kari Lemor who has a fantastic series called Love on the Line. She is the one who coined the term RomSusp LITE to me. Her books (and my new series) center around a major love interest, but there is a danger element involved within the story. It’s not a full blown suspense, but does have intrigue and peril mixed in, so hence the lite terminology.
So, as the New Year rings in tonight at midnight and moves us into a new decade, I’ll be looking forward to moving out of my writing shell a bit.

Oh, he was sure she didn’t. And wouldn’t. Her tenacity was one of the things he’d first been drawn to.
That and her fabulous ass.
“I’m a big boy,” he said with a grin. “I can take it.
She took a sip of water first, her eyes trained on him the entire time. “Okay. If you really want to hear this.”
He waved his hand for her to continue.
“I think you use your cocky, aren’t-I-simply-too- witty attitude to keep people at a distance.”
